Acting Coach - Audition Preparation
I started out helping fellow actors prepare for auditions, just reading scenes with them. After a while, things started to jump out at me- key aspects of the story, often minute, that they hadn't noticed, habits or tics they were falling into that weren't helping them, ideas or images that kinetically conveyed the heart of what a difficult moment was about in a way that they got and let them just be a person. And then the scene would fall into place.
It was a huge thrill. Over time, actors would tell me how confident they felt after working with me, how clear the scene felt to them now- and how often they were getting callbacks and booking work after we'd worked on an audition together. That was also a huge thrill.
I realized that I love working on stories and being an actor from any side of the camera. There's the thrill of being the actor, sure. And there's also the thrill of cracking the puzzle of a scene or a moment for another actor, watching them have an "ah-ha!" moment, and then watching them execute the scene beautifully. And so I realized I loved coaching actors as well as being an actor.
